IBA vs LUMS

http://blogs.tribune.com.pk/story/3244/iba-vs-lums-the-ultimate-business-school-face-off/ at Express Tribune. Though published a while ago (Dec 2010), but provides a good perception of comparison between the two institutions.

Comments on this blog are quite interesting.

  1. I agree with the list presented by Shakil. However I feel that over last 3 years the research target is diluting teaching quality and focus. This need sto be looked into by the other team.

WRT research Can a faculty who is not a student; perform RA duties/obtain an RA appointment for a PhD faculty? This may give novice researchers the experience of doing rersearch from scratch with a high learning curve but low error rate!

  2. Hi YZ, I would recommend the process to be the other way round. To being with, a faculty member should seek funding opportunities, get a research grant and then exercise his/her freedom of accessing resources.

However we can think of a research office, which may provide the following services to our faculty:

    1. Information about various R&D grants available within the Country or abroad.
    2. Help in identifying partners (corporate, government, industry) for exploring opportunities.
    3. Help in coordinating resources that are available within IBA.
    4. Help in doing the clerical work (filling forms for various agencies, getting all IBA documents updated, etc).
    5. Keep a pool of RAs and TAs, who are ready to work on part-time or full-time basis.
    6. Publish R&D activities (papers, patents, grants, outcomes of research) in paper and electronic media.

This is my two cents worth!
